Once In A Blue Moon

7 January 2010 By: Marlene17 Comments

It’s been years ago when I heard this phrase.  My aunties had used this like a hundred times when I was little.  Yet, I never dared ask if there was literally a blue moon as I’ve had never seen one.  It seemed like a myth that passed on from mouth to mouth without any proof of its existence.  I don’t remember how my aunts used this phrase before but the meaning was easy to grasp.  It’s like saying, “Hey, you’re visiting us once in a blue moon.  We missed you so much.”  I have not used this phrase myself nor heard anyone utter the phrase in any verbal context anymore.

It’s kind of late to post this blue moon phenomenon but I’ll post it anyway.  Not for the sake of it but for the pictures I took the night when a blue moon would appear.  It was said that New Year’s Eve would have a blue moon  so I waited patiently (on December 31, 2009) for it to appear but here’s what I got…

Blue Moon Night

Supposed to be a blue moon night

Wikipedia has an interesting facts about the Blue Moon.  And maybe by looking at my photo above, you may realize that there is no literal blue moon.  The next blue moon will occur on November 21, 2010 and by that time maybe I will have the courage to burn a forest so the moon will appear blue, lol!

I read about it one of my friend Shabnam’s Astronomy blog and now you give a picture to know what it is. I miss that night as I’m too busy with my friends to enjoy a small but great New Year party. Thanks for this Marlene.

Hmm… I was not aware of that issue… but the blue moon is spectacular, i am always amazed on phenomenal things that happens in the sky…

I think i saw something on youtube last dec 9 but not the moon, if you would search Mysterious Blue Spiral Light, there you will find a blue light twirling like a sundae in the sky…

I’ll note that november 21 on my calendar and will try to capture the moment as well… 🙂

I’m fascinated with what’s going on in the sky, hehee!.

About that blue spiral over Norway? I’ve read about it, it’s actually near here. But it was proven to be a failed Russian missile launch. However, whatever it was, really spectacular.

oh really, i think its dangerous, testing missiles? what if something goes wrong and it goes to a city or something… it would be a total catastrophe…

Hahaa, I hope not. I think they usually test missiles over the open sea. I haven’t heard such a catastrophe but I think they know what they’re doing.

Now I have to check that wikipidea, so I will know why they called that blue m0on. I often used that, whenever I encountered something that only happened once. Happy new year! I got a new blog po.
