World Expo – Where and When?

1 May 2011 By: Marlene17 Comments

“Have you seen Google’s banner today?”, asked hubby when he opened his browser. I tried to sneak-a-peek into his computer from where I stood but I couldn’t see clearly what it was so I came closer and saw this colorful banner of Google. It was representing the 160th-Year Anniversary of The World Expo since its conception on May 1, 1851 in London.

I first knew about World Expo when the blog I frequently visited before posted photos of the celebration held in Shanghai, China last year. It was amazing and the photos were gleaming with colors and magnificent architectures, I truly admired all of them. I though it would only take place in China yearly. But I learned today that World Expo is organized and conducted in different places. Though it’s celebrating its 160th Year Anniversary this year, the next expo will not be until 2012 in South Korea.

I was wondering when it would take place here in Sweden but unfortunately, it was stated it would be in 2020, if things would go well to pursue the plan. Hubby said the first expo here was in 1923. He wasn’t born yet that time, not even his mother. World Expo in 2015 will be in Milano, Italy. While reading what it was about, I realized it would be a great opportunity to see different parts of the world and their works of art and crafts, from industry to technology. And not only that, it’s both educative and entertaining, too.

Good to have google around to tell/remind us of special occasions. The Olympic games for instance came across my mind only when I saw google’s banner at that time 🙂

The world Expo has been going on for years. I have seen some old memorabilia from a few that were help in the States they truly are an interesting thing. Many odd inventions have been shown there as well, odd enough to get documentary’s on the history channel.

You’re lucky to have seen things from it. I’ve read it had many expo’s in US already. I wish one day to part of it, too.
