Windows 7 – Yet to be installed

13 May 2012 By: Marlene6 Comments

Windows 7 Ultimate PackCan you see dusts on this Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate box? It’s because it has been lying on the shelf for, say, about a year now. This means we’re still running Windows XP Pro in our computers. But this will be over soon. Hubby builds our PC’s which is an advantage because he can always choose the components that he thinks are better than those assembled PC’s in stores.

There’s nothing wrong with Windows XP and I’m pretty sure there are still a lot of people using it, the fact that it’s the most-liked OS among Windows users. Our PC’s still work perfectly fine after many years now. I think it’s the benefit of building your own PC with good specs that contribute to a longer life span. When problem arises you know how to find and fix it.

When Windows Vista was launched, he couldn’t contain his excitement and followed the countdown for its launch. He thought it would be something different and better than XP. He built me a new PC and installed Windows Vista in it. But the short-lived OS did not meet our expectations. Disappointments prompted him to uninstall it and replaced it with Windows XP. Where is it now? Packed in our box that contains old versions of Windows.

We got our MS Windows 7 for cheap and it will probably be taking over the popularity of Win XP. Win Vista didn’t even get to my work’s computer system but the XP will be replaced with Win 7 come August. I’m glad that our laptop runs Windows 7 so it will not be difficult for me to find my way to the new interface.

My husband, however, is dilly-dallying with the installation due to some reasons. The demands of home computing is becoming relatively great so most of the old components should be replaced with new. Not to mention the price of each that’s relatively high, too, though it changes from time to time.

These are the components already purchased:

  • Graphics card – Asus GT520 2GB DDR3 Silent
  • CPU cooler – Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
  • Power Supply – Cooler Master Silent Pro M 700W
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM ( for my PC while waiting for Windows 8 )
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit ( for our main PC with networking and print server )
  • Memory modules – Corsair Vengeance Dual C DDR3 16 GB Kit

Coming soon to join the above components:

  • Processor – Intel Core i7-3820 3,6 GHz
  • Motherboard – Asus P9X79 Deluxe ( built-in Wlan and Bluetooth )
  • SSD – Samsung 830 256 GB

computer hardwares

Since we’re both not interested in computer gaming, he aims to build our PC with a silent computing environment and capable for video or image editing and storage.

Definitely. So far, I like how Win7 works in our laptop. The only downside with XP now is that I can’t update IE to the latest version.

I recently upgraded to Win7 with a new PC and I have to say it is better than XP in some ways, although I’m not fully sure it’s a gigantic leap like XP was over Win 98. I waited so long because Win 7 requires a good bit of RAM and powerful computer overall to run well.

It’s too soon to tell wether Win7 goes home to many or not. It will probably take time to get the leap because it’s not at all cheap to buy one with compelling specs. Just like hubby, he waited too for the prices to go down a bit so that he can get what it requires.

I still use Windows XP in my PC. Our Windows 7 (Home Edition) is pre-installed in my Asus Laptop. Mas gamay ko na ang XP dahil ito ang madalas kong gamitin. Buti na lang your hubby knows how to build PCs. Wala akong masyadong alam sa hardware, just like I don’t know why the dvd writer/driver stopped working in my PC. Problema ko tuloy pag nagka problema ang XP at need ko mag reinstall.

Ganun din ako, pag nagloko na’ng PC ang hubby ang nabubuntunan ko ng inis. It’s good that you have both Windows XP and 7, you can see the differences before totally ditching XP. Kapag hardware na’ng pinag-uusapan wala na rin ako. Pag post nga lang nito dami kong tanong sa kanya. Hahaa!
