White-Yellow Daffodils

4 April 2010 By: Marlene26 Comments

yellow-white daffodilsI saw this flower when we were driving and passing by the Afsluitdijk in Holland (The Netherlands).  We stopped by to have some rest and we were suprised to see this field of Daffodils.  I didn’t actually know they’re Daffodils.  I just remember I had this pic when I thought about påskliljor, the common flower here on Easter which is, I noticed just recently, completely yellow.  They’re sold in supermarkets and flower shops on springtime, too.  I thought it’s the same flower as that in the picture I had.  But they’re of one and same Narcissus species.  This White-Yellow Daffodil is called pingstliljor here.  Well, that’s according to hubby.  I had once the Yellow Daffodils in a vase but I didn’t like the smell of it when it starts to wither.  I don’t know if this White-Yellow one smells different.  Anyhow, I like the colors of both, I would love to have a bunch of it everyday on my table if it’s not for the smell.

Afsluitdijk Holland

A field of White-Yellow Daffodils in Afsluitdijk, Holland

Did I pick some?  No, I didn’t cos it was so beautiful that I was scared to ruin the view by picking a dozen stems.  Afsluitdijk is a causeway in Holland with a  length of 32 km (20 miles) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level (Wikipedia).  It’s like driving between the North Sea and Lake Yssel.

Hindi ako familiar sa Daffodil, pero nung nabasa ko nung 2005 na yan ang Birth Flower ni Sean (and all those born in March), dun lang ako naging aware sa Daffodil. It’s one of the first flowers of spring pala, so it has a symbol of rebirth and has the flower meaning of hope.

Birth flower pala ni Sean ito. Oo, kaya malakas ang benta nito kapag Holy Week dito. Pero yung isang klase ang marami dito.

what a lovely shot! during my recent vacation, spring flowers are still thin on the ground. They were not much to look at as it was still period of late winter and early spring.

That’s too bad. Until now, the trees and ground are still bare. Spring comes very late this time.

Good for her. Our country is rich in different flowers and ornamental plants. She’ll have a good time taking pictures then.

Thanks, Ron. I just thought it’s now allowed to pick because I know this rule exists especially here in Europe. And it’s a very good reason.

Great you did not pick them but anyways these are picked by florists who sell them in the morning at really high prices. I could never buy a bunch of them because I used to find it expensive.
