When November Comes

3 November 2008 By: Marlene12 Comments

It’s been a week since we changed to winter time but when I went out for work this morning, it was still dark.  I felt like I was going out for a night’s shift for work.  An hour back in the clock didn’t help the sun to shine early as it should.  And morning darkness has just began.  Awooo!  It was cold but I have learned to wear proper clothes for this season.  They said there’s no bad weather actually, it’s the kind of clothes we wear for the weather that’s bad, lol!  How the temperature dropped fast, too, from +10°C or higher last week to +2ºC this morning.   And this is what I don’t like when November comes.  My students would always ask me to end our class earlier when they see it’s dark outside to think it’s only 4pm, just 20 minutes ahead of the time schedule.

I’ve always loved November for the fact that it’s my birth month.  Who doesn’t love his/her birth month anyway?  And don’t you greet me now cos it’s not today.  But I have tried to stop remembering my birthday since the year I came here.  It was a nightmare when I first experienced a forceful wind one day in November that almost blew me away when I was on my way to school then learning Swedish.  Geez, I’ve never experienced such in my entire life in Davao, thank God!  How I hated November from that time on.  And no matter how I tried to stop remembering that it’s my birth month, I would meet somebody who has the same birth month as I am, and worse, even the same birthday, lol!  Not only this,  I have many relatives who are celebrating their birthday this month, too.  Not to mention my brother, my nieces, aunt, uncle, cousin and so on and so forth. 🙂  But me, I struggle with what this month has been set for naturally.  As they say, it always rains in November.

I love all months of the year, but of course I have no ‘weathery’ changes to make me not like any months in particular. November is 2 months before the new year peeks, there are times, I just don’t want a new year as it reminds me that I’m getting a year older. on the other hand, I long for the new year to see more surprises coming ahead. either way, we can’t stop the clock ticking- with every tick, we are getting older anyway!

I know how it feels like going to work in the dark, and coming home after dark. To me, it feels nice, for the very fact that we don’t have winter here.

You’re lucky, you don’t have to experience all this darkness. I guess this is how the four seasons work. Sometimes we don’t know what to expect at all.

Now, you remind me that I’m getting a year older again. 🙂

Got it right, Ana. I don’t like it, too. I actually love the snow, especially when I don’t have to go out and just watch it through the window ba.
