Wet Stone Mosaic

3 August 2011 By: Marlene8 Comments

This work of art in the city of Helsingborg attracts bypassers and perhaps wonder what it is for. When I saw it, I thought the water would rise like a fountain but it didn’t. Nonetheless, it’s refreshing to see it when the summer heat hits the body. One can take some water in the hands and sprinkle in the face.

All I know is that the locals call it vattenmosaik or water mosaic, though it could give an impression of a stone mosaic. There are two of these mosaic placed almost side by side in the square. It’s quite calming to hear just the water running, instead of the sound of the traffic on the road while sitting on the bench.

I guess the purpose of this stone mosaic is to is to calm the eyes of the by passers that would take a glance at it. Such kind of color can be quite relaxing to the eyes.

Did it used to be a fountain and they converted it? Either way I think it is pretty.

It’s made that way so that it would look like a water mosaic when the water runs from the center then down to the sides.
