When hubby and I want a brief getaway we drive to the countryside to unwind after a week’s work. Somehow it’s both fun and educative to see attractions that’s different from the city. Sweden has a vast of beautiful sceneries in the countryside and for us who love the seaside and landscape driving in the coutry is always a welcomed idea. If you happen to be in Sweden you may want to visit these country places we’ve been these past weekends.
Strängnäs
My husband is a Swede but he said he’d not been to Strängnäs. Not until we drove from Stockholm we decided to stay overnight in Strängnäs. This little municipality in Eastern Sweden has a population of more than 33,000. What we learned more is that the town is located on the shores of Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden. Strängnäs had a significant part in Sweden’s history, when Gustav Vasa was elected as king of Sweden in 1523 in Strängnäs. We almost didn’t make it to stay overnight here but we took the last available single room at Hotel Rogge. The town organizes different weekend events from music to bicycle races or a festival.
Båstad
When hubby told me we’d be heading to Båstad I wasn’t so interested. I knew an acquaintance who worked in Båstad so I thought it’s entirely an industrial place. I was surprised when he said that Båstad is the Wimbledon of Sweden. We stayed at Hotel Skansen which is close to the tennis arena. This town is located in Skåne, the southernmost county of Sweden. When we walked around the place we saw the 15th-century Båstad Church and outside of which stand old gravestones bearing inscriptions stating the profession of the dead.
Mölle
Mölle is also in Skåne county but in the municipality of Höganäs. We just dropped by here and had lunch at the Grand Hotel Mölle that has this overlooking view of the harbour. It has a historic seaside resort and its scenic harbour is situated on the Kattegatt Strait. The town’s altitude is said to be 16 meters above the Kattegatt Strait. The harbour and coastal area are at sea level though. This explains the location of the hotel on the upper ground and driving to and from the hotel was steep.
Going on a country road trip on weekends is quite costly but doing it once in a while is just a way of relaxation and it recharges our mind with knowledge or informations. After all, all kinds of travel do.
