Was David Naked?

| 22 February 2012 | 11 Comments

When I saw this statue in Helsingborg I knew it was David and the decapitated head was Goliath. Everybody knows the ancient saga, David and Goliath. Well, I hope my nephews and nieces have learned about it. But what I didn’t know was that if David was naked when he killed Goliath. Who would ever know. How the artist of this statue figured out in the story, thus created a naked David, is something to be considered art. Or isn’t it? Despite protests, the statue remains to be seen at Konsul Trapps plats in Helsingborg, Sweden.

In the story, David lifted the head of Goliath to show to the people that the giant was dead. But here, he kneeled and pressed the head with his right foot. He could be rolling the decapitated head from the body with his right foot. I’ll let your mind tell your own story.

Behind him is the stairs leading to the fortress where Kärnan, the relics of the medieval castle remains in place.

It’s really hard to imagine David fighting naked, lol! When I searched the net, he was wearing some kind of a cloth that was typical in the old days.
