We have always had a trip to anywhere around Gothenburg right after school ends in June and before school starts in August. We call it socialdagen. This is one of the privileges that I have enjoyed since I started working as a mother tongue teacher. This year, however, is different because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even our first day at work was held online, and it will be so in the days ahead. Our last group trip was last year to the island in Bohuslän.
Källö-Knippla is an island in Gothenburg’s northern archipelago. We took a ferry from the marina at Lilla Bommen (Gästhamn), close to Gothenburg Opera. It was the usual rainy and chilly August day that made me scared to take the boat. It went fine, though.
The island is known for its walking trail and impressively quiet surroundings. It is also known for its seafood restaurant called Matjes. We could not get around the island because of the weather but the best season to be there must be in the summer.
I hope Leif and I could visit the island and learn more about it. It’s not that far, and it’s accessible by city bus or by car, though the car is transported on a ferry.
