The Distance To The Moon

29 January 2010 By: Marlene12 Comments

I can’t believe I haven’t written a follow-up post since Tuesday.  It has been a gruesome week with winter storm followed by hard snow and ice on the roads and grounds.  I feel pain in my hips when I get home because of the effort I exert when walking on ice.  A number of people were rushed to the hospital after falling, slipping or tripping on icy surface.  I guess you know this kind of story so I will not tell more about it.  Anyhow, I survived the week without bruises or fractured body, thank God.  So with hubby.  I just wish it would rain a little to get rid of the toublesome slippery surface.

It’s certainly soothing to see something colorful up in the sky when everything down here is a chill.  Winter nights can be magical sometimes and when I see a night that seems to be magical, I want to capture it as it is, like the photo below.  It was another full moon night but the sky was amazingly in clear blue spectacle.

Full Moon - Blue Sky

The distance to the moon seems so near, yet so far.  I zoomed in my image to get a clearer view of the moon and the red color around it becomes visible too.  It can’t be hot in the moon, eh?

I do like it too. where is this picture taken by the way? When I was a kid, i used to feel that the moon is too near and so big most especially during full moon. but now, it seems that the moon is no longer that big as compared 20 years ago. I don’t know if it’s just me or it’s really getting farther and farther as years go by.

Sometimes it appears bigger, sometimes smaller. But the day after I posted this, a full moon would appear bigger for some reasons and I missed that night.

The pic was taken right through my kitchen window here at my place.

Thank you so much for dropping by.

    Another great shot.

I think that the moon is not hot. From what I read, it is cold there, the light that you see on it comes from the sunas a reflection.

I think everybody knows that it’s not hot in the moon, otherwise the first men who landed on had been burned to death. 🙂

Actually, there is a conspiracy theory about the lunar landing. According to theorist, moon should be really hot. Just imagine, here on earth where there is an atmosphere that protects us from harmful UV rays. We couldn’t survive the summer heat for a long time or if you are in the middle of the desert. That’s too hot, isn’t it? Now, imagine that on Moon. There’s no atmosphere. The brightness of the sun reflects towards earth. How hot could that be?
