The 4:00 p.m. Darkness

8 December 2011 By: Marlene11 Comments

If I may describe winter as a person, I would say it’s beautiful but cruel because it doesn’t not only bring coldness but darkness, too. Each day is getting shorter and I feel like I’m always on the run to do errands before it’s dark. It seems that I’m not feeling how early or late the time is. I just hurry home when I see that darkness is about to swallow me.

December darkness in Sweden at 4 p.m.

This is how 3:46 p.m. looked today. Imagine leaving home for work while it’s still dark and coming home when it’s already dark. I can’t wait for our school break to begin so I can sleep this darkness away, lol! But until then, I just have to deal with it in a subtle manner, like forcing myself to get up in the morning and lie in bed when I come home from work. Ugh!

Yeah its terrible when you find yourself in a rush to get things done before time. Besides the cold winter doesn’t let your feet move easily to do everything as fast as you can. Winter looks beautiful, but it could be as terrible and worse that woudl ruin your day.

Scary talaga, hehee. Summer here is like no night at all. At 11 pm the sun is still up and sunrise at 3 am.

Fully agree with you here, winter season are in full flow and I can feel the snowy breeze everywhere.Days are becoming short and I unable to manage traveling time in fog around.I hate early dark time and always want to live with nature in daytime.

There’s always a disadvantage in darkness. I, too, don’t like driving in a fog.

I’m also looking forward to winter solstice cos after that the counting hours for days and nights will be reversed. 🙂

You have a good view of darkness and the metaphor you describe is impressive. I will try to think the same.
