Purple Magnolia
It’s a little late to post about this spring flower but it was also in late springtime when hubby and I were out driving around the neighborhood to look for this. We normally see this in full bloom in April but spring was kind of late previously so we didn’t know exactly when it started to bloom. We were lucky to find the tree about three weeks ago though still bearing the beautiful flower of Purple Magnolia. I could not help but admire a sleek tree in dense with purple and white flowers. Hubby must have felt the same because I could see him taking pictures of a lone tree in all angles. I was also excited to take pictures of my own. We were like paparazzis chasing this Magnolia tree, all one could hear from us was the click and many clicking sounds of our cameras. Fortunately, I did better than him, lol! That’s why I post my shots, not his.
There are different kinds of Magnolia but the one in our neighborhood is called Magnolia Liliiflora or Purple Magnolia or Lily Magnolia. It’s also called Mulan Magnolia, Tulip Magnolia and Woody Orchid. It’s a known early spring flower. It originally blooms in China but later cultivated in other countries in Asia, Europe and North America.
Slowly But Surely
It’s May and it’s the month I normally have a lot of things to do, mostly pertaining my job. The nearer the school-year ends, the heavier the loads. I’m getting used to this engrossing job of mine and my only compensation to look forward to is that this will soon be over and I will be having a long school break ahead, slowly but surely. Just like this tree and bush or something that are still in the first stage of blooming despite that it’s the last month of spring already. The trees are supposed to have gained back their crown of leaves but the rains haven’t been enough to support the process yet.
And slowly but surely, too, the buds will bloom and make every tree green again. I took these pics while I was walking to the school past Thursday. I thought it’s unusual to see bare trees and bushes days before May.
Coffee For SAD Affected
I must say that Spring is my favorite season and I love to see how the leaves of the trees sprout and grow thick eventually. I even more like it when I see the bright day through my window when I get up in the morning. The feeling of tiredness and craving for longer sleep are not getting in the way now than in the winter. I go to work at 7am or 8am and it’s not dark anymore. It only means the day is getting longer. I love it!
However, there’s a reverse of the situation because I noticed that I’ve been feeling drowsy and sluggish when I come home that I otherwise don’t feel in the winter. There were times that I went to bed right when I came home from work because my eyes were heavy to bear and would fall off any moment. And it was only around 5:30pm-6:00pm! I tried to get rid of it and thought of starting with my belly dancing afternoon exercise again but my body seemed to be lacking in energy to even insert the DVD into the player.
Incidentally, the local newspaper had featured a topic about depression and sleep in relation to springtime. Little did I know that the sun has something to do with my drowsiness until I’d read the article. I discovered that I was not alone in this situation. Many even get depressed of sunlight and resort to some form of therapy. I, on the other hand, don’t fall into this category – yet. But hubby said that if ever I’d feel depressed I should talk to him so that we both would be depressed, haha! When people fall into depression on early spring, it’s the effect of SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. To overcome my sleepiness, I followed the trick of someone in the newspaper to drink coffee and do physical activity.

caffe latté twice a day?
I don’t like the brewed coffee here because it’s too strong for me. I go for instant coffee instead, but there are no cafés serving instant coffee. I decided to take caffe-latté the other day for a kick-off try to prevent SAD. I had it twice that day. But the result – I couldn’t sleep that night. Ack! It was the worst sleeping problem I ever had. I ended up having four hours of sleep, which is not good at all.
