Image Viewer Plugin

I have finally found the right image viewer plugin for this blog.  I’ve always wondered how those thumbnail images on other sites just pop-up when clicked right in front of you without leaving the site.  It’s useful when I want to post two or more images and with thumbnails I save space and keep the post shorter than showing all the real size of the images vertically.  You may have noticed that I usually include one image in most of my posts, on few occasions two.  I remember I posted several images in a post but I made them smaller than my normal image size.

I have tried the plugin on my previous post if you have noticed the thumbnails.  Oh, I haven’t mentioned the name of this plugin yet.  Silly me, talking about it this far already.  It’s called Lightbox 2 for Wordpress blogs.  I don’t know if it works on Blogger blogs.  You can see it again in action on my thumbnails below.

There are other image viewer plugins I tried but this one works well for me.  It’s simple set-up is one that I can guarantee of.  I am the type who just download, upload and activate.  Although it’s challenging to handle some after activation-procedure sometimes, it’s still easier with my three rules.

Upgraded To WordPress 2.7

I’m getting allergic to the sticky note that WordPress automatically posts everytime there’s a new version coming up ready for download.  It’s the first thing I would notice everytime I log on to my dashboard, thanks to it’s yellow background color around text.  Once, I got this note, “Your WordPress version blah is obsolete, upgrade to version blah”.  This is a bit annoying, no hurt feelings, WordPress.   However, I like the improvements shown in every version so I’m stuck using it.

This is actually my third post with WordPress 2.7.  I have upgraded during holidays when time permitted me to sit longer in front of my PC.  The process was as easy as my previous upgrades, no more nerv-racking this time.  Surprisingly, the new interface is easy to navigate.  I’ve learned to find the necessary buttons in minutes.  In other words, I’ve never lost in the navigation process.  Probably because I had the previous 2.6.3 which, in a way, helped me to understand and learn the latest version as quickly as possible, although the interface of these two versions is way too different from each other.  And maybe if you have the much earlier version like 2.3.x and you’ll upgrade to 2.7, it will give another story then, lol!

For those who are frequent visitors of this site,  you know how many times I’d changed themes for the past year.  I usually change my theme whenever I upgrade to the latest version of WordPress.  And I blame it for coming up with many different versions in a year, too.  Not that my themes were not compatible with the latest version, but you know how fickle-minded I am.  But this time, I’m  not out of my gourd, hahaa!  I’ve decided to keep this theme running as I like it’s simplicity.  Though I want to modify the color but the name Pink Orchid suggests I should stick with pink.  Is this so?  I wonder if the author is aware that I’ve been using this theme for a couple of months now.

So much about my theme.  I wish to talk about the changes made in WordPress 2.7 and how it impresses the community.  It surely is impressive when it comes to the new look of the interface, threaded comments ability and more.  However,  one subtle change that I would love to see in the future is the ability to show recent post of the blogroll links.  If I miss this feature in the new version, feel free to remind me.  I’m not utilizing the widgets and widgets panel in WP but I tried it in my local WordPress.  For those of you who are using widgets to the max, there is a plugin that lets you show the recent post of the blogs in your blogroll.  It’s a widget plugin so I can’t use it.  I prefer to have full control of my sidebars through the sidebar.php file in my theme.  And I’m looking for some plugin similar to the one above but not as a widget.

Sorry, no way to show the recent post of your blog

I did find a code snippet that could show the rss feed of a certain site as what you see in my sidebar where I link to my other site and showing my five recent posts on that site too. But it’s a helluva lot of time to do it in all the links in my blogroll. Duh! I hope WordPress could include this feature on the next upgrade. For me, it’s a drop of fashion in my sidebar if I can see the latest post of the blogs I frequent. On the other hand, you’ve done a great job, WordPress geeks! Keep updating and we’ll keep upgrading. :-)
