The Pressure Of Being Sick

Just when I thought I would be safe from being sick of any kind of flu, none the least swine flu, since most of my students had already taken the booster shot against the dreaded virus, I caught this ordinary kind of flu.  It must be from the party I attended last weekend and being in the group of people can sometimes never be safe when all sorts of flu are in the background.  I had to call in sick yesterday because of headache and throat problems.  And just when I needed to give exams, submit evaluations and all.  The pressure of work and being sick collided at the wrong time.  Now I’m still feeling a little out of sorts with running nose and cracking voice.  I went to work today in spite of this, to meet the deadline.  It will be school holidays in three weeks time so a little patience would not harm.  Hurry, hurry days!

Speaking of swine flu vaccine, I am quite apprehensive to take the shot because of my prolonged cough.  I still have this cough in which the doctors’ prescribed medicine failed to help.  Darn.  On account of this, I met with another doctor in Davao during our stay there and I got three kinds of medicine.  My cough had alleviated though not completely.  I still have one medicine from the three and just taking it when necessary.

I realized that even though my students were vaccinized, I wouldn’t be excused from having the said virus although I vehemently hope I would be.  But I wouldn’t know who I’d be sitting with in a tram or how safe the public places would be.  Am I getting paranoid?  Lol!  A little bit maybe.  I don’t actually think of the presence of the virus when I go anywhere, who does.  My silly thought has just provoked me to lay out a probable instance of catching it.  Achoo!  But with this running nose, I feel like I’m carrying a tap in my nose.

I Want My Golden Voice Back

I’ve been absent from my job for four days straight and this has been the longest sick leave I’ve ever had.  Imagine how much money I lost from being sick.  I don’t want to think about it cos right now I’m more concerned about getting my (golden) voice back.  The aftermath of cold or flu.  It seemed that me and hubby were attacked by some kind of virus these past few days and thank God, it wasn’t strong enough to kill us.  It came unnoticed and left unnoticed, chooo, chooo!

I’m feeling better now, up and running.  But my voice sounds terrible.  I had a chat today with my sweet family in Davao and they were all surprised to hear my cracking voice.  “What happened to your voice?” Then followed by “drink some lemon” and “drink much water”.   Thanks very much my dearies.  I needed your comforting thoughts at times like this.

And thank you too, my well-wishers for your kind thoughts.  Now, I need some tea with honey to perhaps soothe my throat.  I missed those small “calamansi” pressed into juice.

Sick Of Cold On A Monday Morning

To call in sick on a Monday morning is not really a good start of the week.  Ahh, this cold strucks me again and this time’s not getting any better.  With fever and headaches, muscular pains and backaches.  How could I endure the day when I’d feel all of these early in the morning.  I knew it the moment I went to bed last night, I felt a chill creeping inside me and I was shaking a bit under my blanket.  I said I should take medicine before it would get worse.  But it’s a situation out of control.  One moment I was groaning in pains, the other moment I was sneezing and coughing bad.

Drinking a lot of water would help in some instances but the pains and aches take some time to disappear.  I thought I needed massage as what we usually do in Davao, but no one could do it to me here, not even hubby who’s not keen on such thing.  I got this ointment that my sister bought for me and it helps, but I could not stand the smell, yacks!  I have been trying to get used to it’s disgusting smell.

Medicine, medicine and more medicine to get rid of this dreadful cold.  It’s the only thing I could do now and hope it would help me feel better soon.  I just have to get some sleep and see if I feel any difference when I wake up tomorrow.  Otherwise, I have to stay in bed and let this cold disappear anytime it wants.
