Is it Too Late to Learn to Swim?
It’s shocking to hear that a cruise ship so huge ran aground despite the high-tech navigation system that most ships like this have these days. Although the incident was caused by human error it doesn’t keep me from thinking that untoward situations while traveling can happen no matter how advanced technology has contributed to the safety of the individual. It’s no use reiterirating the said news for I’m sure you know about it, too. When hubby and I are doing a road trip it’s somehow tempting to take a ferry to avoid a long drive to cross the lands.
I’ve been on a ship many times since I came here. Sometimes I cross the border with my friends by sea. But the truth is if anything happens, I mean really bad happens aboard a ship, I will be in real disaster of my life because I can’t swim. When I heard the news of that cruise ship gradually sinking I told hubby I wanted to learn to swim. He laughed at my statement and I knew he didn’t believe that I meant it. Swimming for most of us in the Philippines is just for fun while Sweden offers a lesson in swimming in all schools requiring the students to pass.
View from the Port of Gdynia
The 24-hour cruise wasn’t long enough to do a quick hop from the ship. Since we didn’t bring the car aboard, we just stayed on the upper deck and looked around the Port of Gdynia. This seaport in Poland operates car ferry service from Gdynia to Karlskrona, Sweden. Anyhow, we were delighted to see this part of Poland and it would be worth an exploration of the city in the future.
It’s admiring to see trees in green foliage as one enters the city of Gdynia from the harbour. It looked like the terminal was under the city. Lol!
We could see these beautiful buildings from the ship. It looked like apartment and commercial buildings. And I was wondering what’s inside the Beverly Hills Video. Again, greens were everywhere.
I liked so much this view! I’m always impressed to see building structures on high lands. I bet those living up there are also having a good view of the harbour and smelling the breeze of the sea. So lovely!
Seeing the city was the best thing we could do on an hour and a half stop on the Port of Gdynia. It was a gratifying experience to be aboard a cruise ship for 24 hours. I don’t fancy sea-travel but would I dare to cruise longer than this?
A Day At The Reef
Remember the brief getaway that my friends and I were planning and that it could never push through because something would get in the way in one of us? Well, we finally made it past weekend. We crossed the border by boat just to be in Scandic The Reef before noon. It took more than three hours from Gothenborg harbour to Fredrikshamn harbour (Denmark) by an ordinary Stena Lines boat. From there we were aboard Stena Lines express boat for a two-hour sea cruising back home.
I did take some photos of us when we were swimming at the pool. It was not easy to take pictures of the whole area because there were people around that might be in the photos. I like the tropical atmosphere and the lightings inside. There are cold and hot dips and a small sauna in the corner. The bubble baths are warm and relaxing. The big pool is giving a sense of adventure in a tropic when the sound of thunder starts, then we can see waves coming while it rains over us. I did manage to take a video when the moment of thunders and waves came.
Though we were tired after hours in the pool, we were happy and smiling on our way home cos it was such a great adventure to be crossing the border for the second time.
