St. Lucia Church in Syracuse

We’re celebrating Santa Lucia day tomorrow, though it’s not a holiday the schools and offices have their own way of showing high regard on this day. Special hot drinks called glögg, ginger cookies, a bun called lussekatt are traditionally prepared on the table. In the city, the search is on for this year’s Lucia. Some schools take their students to the church to express a solemn observation.

Santa Lucia Church in Syracuse

There’s no Santa Lucia church here but in Syracuse (Italy), where Lucia is the patron saint of the city, the Santa Lucia Church is a must-visit on the day of the celebration. It is said that Lucia was buried in the church but we could not get in to see her tomb with our own eyes because it was closed then. We came a few days after the observance of Lucia Day ( December 13). We saw it in an Italian newspaper that this place was packed with people. But quite empty when we arrived.

Hubby looking at Santa Lucia Church

That’s hubby looking closely to the church, hoping the door would be opened long enough to let us in. With hopes in vain, we just satisfied ourselves by taking pics, posing and staring at the church.

Visiting Santa Lucia Church - Syracuse

Oh, I do remember why we couldn’t get in the church. It was lunchtime and everything is normally closed in Italy from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. I also recall that hubby was in a hurry to find a restaurant, afraid we would miss lunch and wait for dinnertime at 8 p.m. Anyway, have a peaceful Santa Lucia Day!

Light Manifestation for BCAM

I was wondering what the oil candles were for when I saw them lighted in broad daylight a week ago. When my friends and I passed by the Domkyrkan, we stopped and looked around the church premises and admired these lights on the ground. A woman approached us and showed us some pink ribbon products. Then I realized it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), thus, the light manifestation was for at Domkyrkan.

Light Manifestation for Breast Cancer Month

I got a call for a mammogram a few months ago but I cancelled it in favor of my job. I had a record of breast consultation and mammogram when I noticed a lump in my right breast. It was the time I learned about water cysts when the doctor said what the lump was. It was removed by inserting a thin needle in the lump and extract  the water. Since then, I would get a schedule for mammograph every other year. I know I shouldn’t have ignored the call even though it was treated and removed. I can never be so sure. I’ll make sure not to miss my mammogram next time.

Happy Beer Day!

We went to a golf course in the south and had lunch at the place’s restaurant. We thought it was a great day to see the greens in a warm day. It felt like we had real summer weather past weekend so we took the time to go out. This used to be hubby’s favorite place for lunch when he was young but he said it has changed a lot since then. We both don’t play golf, though I wish I could, but I’d rather not cos I’m afraid I’d hit the grass more than the ball.

Happy Beer-day, dear hubby!

Anyhow, my other half likes to drink beer when it’s warm and that must explain where he got his hmmm tummy, lol! Well, what I can say more to my so loving hubbys is that you’re the best and there’s no doubt of it. Just borrowed your punching line but I must say it’s true, it’s so you. Hugs and kisses!
