Stone Sculpture To Sit On

27 October 2010 By: Marlene10 Comments

I didn’t realize there was something remarkable about this “thing” I took on our visit to Karlskrona last summer. After hubby and I had a long walk around the place, we stopped outside the hotel we were staying and took a rest and enjoyed the beautiful sight of the sea. Then I noticed this huge stone sculpture in front of me. It was awesome when I turned to see the shining smooth wall and floor so I took a pic of it.

While looking at this pic again a few days ago, I thought this shouldn’t have been placed there for no reason. I searched the net and discovered that it was quite new when we were there. The sculptor, Pål Svensson is the man behind this four-meter high stone sculpture. And it was named, Bleke, which means the large water surface that lies still. The name was picked through contributions and won by Tommy Forsberg.

Anyhow, this sculpture stands outside Scandic Hotel in Karlskrona. It’s not just a sculpture to stare on but also something to sit on. It can also be a good rendezvous for friends. I should have sit on its floor but I didn’t think of it because I was overwhelmed with amazement and had fun staring on the image behind the glass.

Wow nice naman nyan. Semi-transparent yung surface nya no? Unang tingin ko parang optical illusion. 🙂

Oo nga, akala ko rin at first ay salamin at yung image nasa likod ko. Nasa loob pala yung image talaga.

I’m sure you’ll find something like this in your place. Stone and glass sculpture artists are everywhere.

[…] Seeing a coast guard vessel is not what anyone wish to see. Perhaps those who are interested in a maritime career would take a chance to be in a different kind of ship, which goal is to protect the nation from sea hostilities. I didn’t think that a coast guard ship is so big until I saw one at the Swedish Coast Guard (Kustbevakningen) headquarter in Karlskrona. […]
