SE-W995 Almost Has It All

WiFi ready phones are becoming a must trend in all mobile phones nowadays.  If I have to choose between 3G and WiFi, I’d prefer the latter best.  The foremost reason why is the cost difference between these two mobile internet connections.  I have been mobile browsing with 3G Turbo and there has been no problem with the speed.  But the cost for surfing is relatively high.  If I have to surf for 9sek a day for 30 days, that will add 270sek to my monthly bill.  But with WiFi that’s everywhere, it costs almost nothing.  Or nothing at all.

Anyway, here’s another WiFi ready phone from Sony Ericsson, if you’re into switching to a new one.  This Sony Ericsson W995 almost has it all in one package.  What’s missing is the touch screen feature and perhaps other top Internet phones features.  You may tell what’s missing with the specs below.

Sony Ericsson W995 features:
–  8.1 MP camera with flash, auto focus and image stabilizer
–  8GB M2 card included
–  MP3, Radio with RDS (Walkman mobile phone)
–  2,6 inch-screen
–  YouTube™ program
–  a-GPS
–  WiFi™ certified

Vhincent, I don’t know how much it cost in the Philippines yet. Here in Sweden it cost 5K+ and in Php that would be around 35K.

What really attracts me is the 8.1 MP. Currently the one I am using is a SE Cyber-shot phone with only 3.2. 8.1 will be good. And it definitely better to have WiFi then 3G. With WiFi widely available in Singapore, it means that I can connect for free at a lot of location. 🙂

BK, hubby’s phone has 3.2 meg cam and it seems better on outdoor shots only. Mine has 2.0 and not satisfactory shots so I’m thinking of switching to a higher meg mobile phone. Yes, yes, yes! You see know I’m online now with WiFi and it’s cheaper than 3G.

WIFI- is not a common thing here, very few places are equipped with WIFI. Even we are struggling with 3G phones.

I like the color and the 8.1MP camera. And speaking of wifi, pag pumupunta ako sa mall, hospital or kung saan man, naghahanap ako ng may libreng wifi. Kaso nakakainis minsan kasi may “no web gate reply” di tuloy maka access.

Ganyan din dito sa Davao, friend. Kelangan umupo kami sa isang coffee shop na may wifi at mag-order para mabigyan ng password gateway.

Another Swedish review: as i also bought one 🙂
    * The Camera is really great, not like C905 since that one has Xenon flash
    * Audio is extremly good, I have never had an mp3 player with this quality. Especially as you get noise cancelling headset in the box (in Sweden at least)
    * Battery life – super! Had mine for 5 days without charging.

    cons:
    * Internet Browser; as you said it is not that good

I wouldn’t say that touch screen is a ‘con’ since you instead get great battery life and a much smaller sized phone.

    Cheers! 😀

Niclas, thanks for the review. This phone is really an upbeat for Sony Ericsson. The WiFi is an advantage to me cos I can check my mails for free. Awesome!

Oh, yes, anyone can handle this phone without that touch screen.
