Neither A WAHM Nor A SAHM

28 July 2008 By: Marlene18 Comments

We never know what we learn from bloghopping and reading a piece of info while dropping EC. It’s basically easy to notice the “about” widget or something and I’m keen to know where the authors from and what they blog about. In many instances, I came across an acronym that made me stare and think what every letter stands for – WAHM. I thought I must be the most unaware, unimaginative blogger around who doesn’t know what the acronym stands for. By instinct, I googled WAHM and I realized at an instant that I am not a WAHM myself. This must explain why I didn’t get to know this acronym at all. Now I can say, I’m neither a WAHM nor a SAHM, simply because I’m not a work-at-home-mom. Although I stay at home now that I’m free from work, I’m not a mom to be qualified as a SAHM. Try SAHW. What a thought. WAHM, SAHM and now I remember the pop band WHAM who popularized the songs “WMUBYGG” and “LC”. Can you figure those titles out? I bet it’s easy.

And speaking of acronyms, I’m not the only one who aren’t aware about familiar acronyms. Many years ago, a friend of mine emailed me about what FYI meant. It’s kind of funny cos I don’t think there’s a single person on earth who doesn’t know what FYI stands for. Except this friend of mine. I thought she was kidding, but she wasn’t. And how she laughed when I told her it’s ‘for your information’. She said, in fact, she had said this many times but didn’t realize many were writing and using those words as FYI.

Although it’s tricky at times, acronyms can be useful in sending SMS especially for those who engage so much in using this ingenious technology. But as far as I am concerned, I’m a novice in SMS shortcuts or something. I have tried many times, but I’m always afraid the receiver might misunderstood me as I misunderstand most sms acronyms at times, lol!

I better go watch CSI NY now before I start writing in shorthand rather than acronyms. 🙂

I was surprised when someone who I thought knew a lot, didn’t know what fyi meant either. It’s hard to say how many times I had used it and they had no idea what I was talking about.

When wifey and me were dating, we had so many acronyms that sometimes it would take me ages to figures out her ‘codes’ … LOL!

My, reading this entry reminded me of myself when I started blogging. I came across a lot of acronyms too, and especially those WAHM and SAHM. I was so confused, I thought those must be some hi tech technical terms which I would never understand! LOL I actually googles for the answer and when I came to know what, I love to use those term too, well, after all I am a SAHM now. LOL
