How Did It Go?

24 March 2010 By: Marlene25 Comments

Just when I thought I survived the severe winter an unexpected incident happened to me yesterday  morning.  It was raining when hubby drove me to work.  I was happy that it finally rained as it was more welcomed to melt the remaining hard snow  that’s been on the ground since the first month of winter.  Hubby dropped me to the school and while I opened the heavy door to get into the school building, my hand slipped from the knob, which was being wet by the rain.  And all the force that I had to open the door seemed to push me so that I fell backwards and straight to the ground.  No one was outside to help me so I tried to get up immediately but the moment I was up I felt an excruciating pain from my left knee.  It was so unberable that it made me quiver when I tried to make a step to get on the two-step stair.  Somehow, I managed to open the door while my hand was shaking in pain.  When I was inside I tried to feel the exact location of the pain then I saw that the left side of my jeans was torn.  I realized that I hit my knee hard on something when I fell!  While I was walking back and forth in the corridor I felt I could not endure the day with the growing pain in my knee.  I called hubby and told him what happened and I asked him to drive back to school and pick me up.  I talked to the teacher-in-charge of the student, who would have study help with me that day, about the incident and left for home when hubby arrived.

my crutchesI checked on how damaged my knee was as soon as I arrived home.  I found that it was swollen and the wound was on the left just below the knee.  I was groaning in pain everytime I tried to walk.  Both hubby and I were undecided whether to go to the nearby clinic or not.  He was sure I had not broken a bone or something and I was sure the pain was not through the knee but rather on the surface made by the swell and wound. For that time being, I used the stick of the floor mop just to get me to and from the bedroom.  Hubby went back to work while I was struggling on the hardships I was undergoing.  This is how living in a place without relatives who could come and help.  Hubby came home with crutches for me.  He borrowed from a friend he usually drives.  I’m still using these crutches now and I’m happy that the pain has subsided that I can touch my foot with the damaged knee to the floor without problem.  But I don’t want to stress it as I’m afraid the sore will bleed again.

I have been trying to figure out how it happened.  I could understand that the door knob was a bit slippery caused by rain.  But the fall was unbelievably too serious to be true.  If I were a director and I would direct an actor to fall from a low-built stair, I’d instruct him to fall backwards and hit his butt on the ground then use his hands to the rescue.  To hit the knee on something while falling backwards would be overacting.  But overacting does happen in real life, as I see it now.  Because of this, I will be staying home for a couple of days. Geezz, this must be the longest post I’ve written so far. Lol!

That’s true. That’s why we need to always expect the unexpected especially when in motion.

How are you now? If it’s only muscle pain, i think hot compress or cold compress would ease it up. Or better, go to your doctor. I do ride motorcycles and sometimes, what you see on your injury can be more serious on the inside.

Thanks, Renz. A little better. I think cold compress is better but I didn’t think about it after it happened. I can still feel pain so I will try the cold compress to the swollen part. Thanks for the tip.

Motorcycles are a risky ride. My brother-in-law have had accidents riding motorcycles. Be careful…

maybe you could take some pictures of the location where you fell. We might be able to figure out what really happened.

I will do it next week. I should have done it before I left the school that day, but the pain was getting unbearable.

Aww! Don’t call me ma’am. That word would make me feel 60 years old.
I can walk without crutches now, but slowly cos it still hurts when I bend my knee.

      Thanks a lot for asking.

Ouch! Reminds me of the time when I fell down too. Masakit yun ah. Hope you’re okay now. Francis used crutches before din, nahulog din kasi sya nung 2008, may part ng ankle ang nabali kaya nilagyan ng screw.

Yay! I remember that, Amor. And I remember about that incident with Francis, too. Ang sakit yata nung lagyan ng screw. Yung kapatid ni Leif na na-slide naapektuhan din ang ankle.

Medyo ok na at nakakalakad na ng walang crutches, hehee. Thank you, friend.
