“Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday.”
“I didn’t come to school yesterday because I was feeling like I was going to be sick, but thankfully I wasn’t!”
I am not writing about students absences and excuse notes but I just find those statements humorous to start with. I can’t remember if I had written excuse letters when I was in school but I do remember I had few absences. I went to a public school in my place and telephone was not an ordinary means of communication at that time so we couldn’t call the school to inform our absences. The only thing we could do is to ask someone a favor, in my case, I used to ask my sister to inform my teacher whenever I was sick. Otherwise we could always tell the teacher the next day or when we’re back.
Anyway, I wish to tell my own absences from blogging these past few days and at the same time I wish to express my gratitude to my blog buddies for visiting my blog despite the frequency of my postings. I am obliged to say that I have some priorities that need much attention than blogging. Foremostly, my work has been consuming much of my time these days and my task has been up a notch higher since I was assigned to teach Filipino in the upper secondary education. It needed careful preparation since I would be dealing with students aged 16-20. I met them the first time yesterday and I am already looking forward to meeting them again. I always love to be in front of older students. It’s overwhelming to hear the students speaking in Filipino in a non-Filipino school. I know it will take more days for me to be adjusted to this level of teaching and I’m hoping for the best that I can do. This will be valuable to me and to the students since this is the first Filipino class in the upper secondary level.
It’s just one of the priorities I’m dealing with now. Let me end this post with another funny excuse: “Please excuse me for being absent last week. I am in pursuing my life’s dream and training to become a Master Burger Flipper at McDonald’s.”
well.. i missed your post my friend..

Please excuse me for being absent in the blogosphere, I have been busy tending my farm in FB. 😀
Madali na ngayon kapag absent ang stude may text na kasi. I don’t remember writing an excuse letter when I was still studying. Come to think of it, maybe I did coz I was absent for more than a week when I had chicken fox pala.

Haaa!

Isa ka palang professor. I think that it is alright kung absent ka paminsan-minsan sa school nyo since nakakapagod naman talaga ang work diyan eh!

Aww, hindi naman ako professor. BSED ang natapos ko kaya nakapagturo sa upper secondary level dito. Nakakapagod talaga ang teaching job kasi kelangan ng preparations palagi, hayy…
16 to 20 years old?
Di ba college na iyun?

Ehek! Sumobra pala ang age na naisulat ko. 16-18 usually ang upper sec. Iba kasi ang system dito, mahaba ang lenght ng education: 9 years sa elementary and lower secondary level, 3 yrs sa upper then 4 to 4 and a half sa University.
I really enjoyed the first excuse. Nice one! That wouldn’t happen to be a real excuse, would it?
Adrian, thanks for dropping by. I really appreciate it.
Hahaa! I don’t think somebody would make an excuse like that. It sounds funny and ridiculous.
well I think being a good blogger every one like you and miss you. I know that you are trying your best to managing you both work job and blogging. I know you can do it. Keep it up.
Flashpoints, thanks a lot. You’re right, I’m trying hard to manage both and it’s a struggle for me.
Aren’t we all!
Hey,Mariene, today i have noticed that you have gave me a banner link on your site. It’s really a great pleasure for me. Thanks a lot for this.
I so wish they have a class-immersion school for the Filipino language here in the US as a whole. Some states does like California. As I was reading the first paragraph of your post, I can’t help but smile. My daughter has been absent so many times prior to when School began. So many germies really. I’ve launched an all out war. Not to say, it always gets me sick too when she is. Hope you feel well and beware of those germies!
Maybe because the Filipino community in California is larger than in other States. Too bad, not all have the chance to learn our language.
Yay, I’ve not decided yet if I get that N1H1 vaccine. I’m afraid of some side-effects.
Oh I know about wishing you can blog more. Now that I’m home sick, I’ve got plenty twirling my hair and coughing up a horse. I would love to do a guest post on your blog while I’m sick! give me something to do (productive?)- hurry it ends tomorrow he he
Eeehh! I like this, Maricris. I’d love to have your sensible post on this blog, hehee. Tell me when you want to write. And maybe I should create a username for you?
wow, i wish we had “filipino” as a foreign language subject back in my high school days. that would’ve probably benefited me more than taking spanish class. than again, i’m pretty much engaged to a mexican. so i guess it served a purpose. hehe good luck teaching those hard heads! i’m sure you’ll do great. you seem to have patience 😛
.-= kristine´s last blog ..thirty4th.monthsary =-.
Kristine, I’m beginning to lose my patient to those who are not using the language at home and I always do repetition all the time. It’s disappointing.
i think that’s the hardest homework to get used to doing. i remember when i reached spanish level 4 (which was considered native speakers) i failed to speak it outside of the classroom because we speak fluent ilocano at home. it was tough. my only source was watching spanish novelas .. which always reminded me of the filipino ones.. and it helped tremendously. i wish i could tell them it really does help to try to utilize what they’ve in class, outside of their learning environment. it makes things easier on both the teacher and student.
SMACK THOSE KIDS IN THE HEAD!!
.-= kristine´s last blog ..fyi visitors. =-.
But I’m impress cos you reached level 4 even if you didn’t use the language at home. Yes, I would tell the parents the same thing when we have our meeting.
Hahaa! I’d love to! 🙂
I just cant remember if i wrote an excuse letter during my schooling days? If i am absent “it is what it is..” no more explanation… hahahaha…

And if the teacher would asked you why, you would say, “none of your business, ma’am”, lol!
I am also here after a long time, I was out side my holidays.
Oh, welcome back! Hope you enjoy your holidays.
