Sicilian Hot Chocolate Drink

When it’s intensely cold like now I always think of having a hot chocolate drink. I thought winter this time would be mild and dry but I didn’t count on the coldest month to be always the coldest month, lol! I have known that February is the month when winter is the most cruel here. Snow is fine but when the temperature drops to -11°C like this morning I don’t feel like working at all. My hands really froze after scraping snow off my car. It’s first time for me to be driving the car in winter.  Anyhow, I’m home now and guess what I am thinking…

Sicilian Hot Choco Drink

The hot chocolate drink I had at Baia Verde bar in Catania, Sicily

This hot chocolate was so creamy, I could just eat it, not drink. It’s so different from the hot choco drink I usually have in a café here, which is almost the same as what my Tassimo can make. But this thick choco drink is a real energy booster to me. I wonder how to make this – perhaps melt a block of chocolate in a pan and add some milk, or is it just cacao powder mixed in a hot milk. I’ll make an experiment.

Oh, no! Blue Snow!

blue snow and why?

There is no such thing as blue snow but why do I make the snow blue in my pictures? In the world of failed photography I think I succeeded in this. I often get blue snow even if it’s clearly white in reality. I’ve read before that it’s not a good picture of a snow at all. When this failure repeats every now and then I decided to search for answers why it is happening. Fortunately, I found ephotozine‘s website that has an article about why snow appears blue.

Speaking of snow, we had our first real winter of the year past Saturday and the happiest were the children enjoying their ride on the sledges. Finally, this season shows what it’s supposed to show. Though I wish it would be over soon.

Let Them Become Raisins

dry, old grapes

I left these grapes in a bowl for later indulgence but it seemed I left them for a long time until they looked dry and shriveled. When hubby saw what was in the bowl, he asked me if I was going to make a raisin out of the grapes. I said I had no intention of doing so but I could as well let them become raisins if it’s the way it would be done.

I was looking for a box of raisins at the grocery store today because I thought of making a macaroni salad á la Filipino style. I’m not good at baking or cooking but I’ve learned to improvise. I just hope that the raisins would add flavour to it.
