A Different Kind of Ship

19 February 2012 By: Marlene2 Comments

Seeing a coast guard vessel is not what anyone wish to see. Perhaps those who are interested in a maritime career would take a chance to be in a different kind of ship, which goal is to protect the nation from sea hostilities. I didn’t think that a coast guard ship is so big until I saw one at the Swedish Coast Guard (Kustbevakningen) headquarter in Karlskrona.

I wouldn’t know, of course, how it looks like inside but I’d guess there might be harmless weapons. Hahaa! This is one of the three vessels that are always ready to help in any form of sea disasters. It’s a multi-purpose vessel – surveillance and environmental protection.

The most important operation of the coast guard, however, is to maintain safety and provide assistance to any odd conditions at sea. It’s responsible for giving clearance to the other vessels entering and leaving the country.

I’ve been inside one of these type of coast guard ships and they are really packed with so many features! All sorts of monitoring and surveillance equipment and even quite a bit of defensive capabilities should there be any need.

Oh, lucky you! I won’t expect I’d go onboard a ship like this, it’s not that easy, I guess. Yes, I can imagine how high tech it is inside.
