I’ve long expected that this holiday would not excuse me from doing my paperworks. It’s Christ’s Ascension Day holiday for both work offices and schools. I was supposed to be work-free but the nature of my job obliged me to do my duty at home even on this non-working holiday. But I’m glad I’m almost done checking the exams and the grades should be ready next week, thank God for this. Should I be in church because it’s Christ’s Ascension Day? As far as I know, there’s only one Catholic Church in this city and as far as I can remember, I’ve gone to that church twice since I arrived here. I’ve become an indolent Catholic and if you ask me if I believe in God, my answer would be the same as the Swedish people’s answer would be – yes, somewhere. I wouldn’t have the faintest idea what they mean with this but when I say this myself, it would mean somewhere in my inner self is a reflection that I believe in God. It wasn’t my intention to write about my belief. I was actually thinking to share this palatable potato dish that hubby would oftentimes request me to do. And today is not an exception. Sometimes I refuse when he asks me cos it takes half an hour in the oven, but when he peels the potato himself and everything’s ready, I’m it. So here it is!
Potatoes gratiné a lá Marlene
I’ve been busy on my work table and in my kitchen today. Tomorrow is a working day between two public holidays or the day we called “sandwich day” (lol!) and should also be a holiday for most, but my administrators have given us extra training day. The students are lucky enough to have a long weekend starting today. It’s too late to complain now, the plans have already been set-up. I anticipate this half-day training will give us more paperworks before school ends.
Same here needs to do a lot, the worse thing is hubby is at work so I need to take care of my son but I enjoyed being with him. We end up going to the city and visited his grandmother.
For us here almost all schools, public institutions and most companies are close today so its a long weekend indeed I think the Danes love holidays.
Next one will be May 30 and June 1 which is Pentecost Day and June 5 which Constitution day.
But have a nice weekend. 🙂

Oh, your government in Denmark is very considerate, you’re lucky. Pentecost Day here is no longer a holiday cos they changed it to National Day (june 6) that wasn’t a holiday many years back. Unfortunately,it’s a Saturday this time so…

Ayy, Maricris, napakadali lang nito. Potatoes (sliced in thin rounds), peppar, salt, garlic, and a bit butter. Mix them all and put in the oven in 225*C. It will be done in about 30 min.
Oh my! That looks so yummy! It’s making me hungry and I just had breaky! Hehehe Time for round 2!

Rozella, it’s yummier with beef steak or something. I like the pepper sauce that hubby usually do to go with this gratin. 🙂

I was in technical college last semester but am dropping out of my course. During the time I was at school, I would work at a hotel as a housekeeper on Saturdays. I asked my boss if she would give me more hours but she said that wasn’t possible. Some of the full-time housekeepers are being laid off because there aren’t enough rooms being booked. So, now I have to look for a job in a different sector. What do you suggest? It’s got to be entry-level.
I’m afraid I can’t help you with this. My line of work is completely different from yours.
