I remember many years ago that schools and offices were closed on Walpurgis Eve. But that has changed. I don’t know when, but I do recall we’ve had to work on this day for a long period of time now. Walpurgis Eve is celebrated on 30 April here in Sweden and it’s the day before Labour Day, the 1st of May. Between these days, the 30th of April seems like a holiday because of its traditional celebration. Since Walpurgis Eve is not a holiday, the celebrations happen in the afternoon till the wee hours of Labour Day.

Walpurgis Eve (April 30th) is celebrated with bonfires, singing, and gatherings to welcome spring. The image, with its bustling square, tram tracks, and historic buildings, might capture the festive energy as people come together, enjoying the clear weather and the anticipation of the evening’s traditions. The presence of the Swedish flags adds a patriotic touch to the vibrant atmosphere.
In the Gothenburg area, the celebration starts at the Chalmers Cortège in the afternoon. It’s a carnival parade by the Chalmers University of Technology students. I haven’t seen the parade in a long time, but I can always check it on the Internet.
