Holy Week In Barcelona
Unfortunately our Easter Break does not fall on the Easter Week since it starts on the last week of March this time. We usually have school break on Easter if it falls later than March. This is because we normally have Winter Break in February so having another break after this month will give us shorter school days in between. This means I am working to death this Holy Week but will be load free from Friday till next week. Yipee!
I remember one Holy Week when hubby and I had a trip by car to some cities in Europe. It was easy to drive on the roads with less cars and less traffic to mind. The trip was as smooth as a smooth sailing ship. I have known that many people observe Holy Week in different ways. Here we normally have lots of eggs and candies in egg boxes, colored eggs and believe it or not, witches (påskkärringar in Swedish)! I don’t want to elaborate more on this cos I have not followed this belief religiously. I am Catholic and the countries in Europe that’s more likely to have the same Holy Week observance as mine will be Spain and Italy. The farthest city that we could drive in that trip was Barcelona, Spain. Awesome! I wish we could make the same trip again. Here are some pics we took.

La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona
The unfinished La Sagrada Familia. It is said that this church was built in 1882 but until now it is far from done. It has been planned that this church will be finished in 2026! Tourists flocked in and out of this 170 meter high church.

The living Mary in Barcelona?
I enjoyed looking at this living Mary who waved to people, smiled and froze like a statue. One moment she was facing there, the other moment here. I came close to her while hubby took a pic of me with her in the background and after that she signalled at me to stay and she picked something in her little pocket. She gave me a little souvenir!

Planeta de Barcelona? Muy caliente!
It was easy for me to understand the signs or sign boards everywhere but when I listened when they talked, I was completely lost. Ayuda!
Waffles All Year Round
This must sound odd but we do celebrate Waffle Day here in Sweden. It’s a celebration that I get accustomed to since hubby and I bought a waffle-maker, lol! Home-made waffles are better than those at the cafés or restaurants. The celebration has something to do with the Annunciation (when Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would bear the Son of God). But it was not a Waffle Day in the beginning. It was called Vårfrudagen (Our Lady’s Day) which later sounded like Våffeldagen (Waffle Day), thus eating waffles on this day begun.

Waffle Day, 25th March
I did not make the waffles above although I was home that day. I don’t think I could manage since I was walking with crutches then. But I thanked hubby’s friends who were so thoughtful and kind to buy us this special waffles. Decorated with a flag, a chocolate and a strawberry, it made me feel so…..Swedish. Hahaa!
Even if it’s a special day for waffles and almost the whole population eat waffles on this day, it is however available all year round at any cafés and restaurants. I remember the first time I ate it at a café in town with hubby. I thought it looked strange as it was not the same waffle I used to have in the Philippines, the one which had either a cheese or a hotdog filling.
How Did It Go?
Just when I thought I survived the severe winter an unexpected incident happened to me yesterday morning. It was raining when hubby drove me to work. I was happy that it finally rained as it was more welcomed to melt the remaining hard snow that’s been on the ground since the first month of winter. Hubby dropped me to the school and while I opened the heavy door to get into the school building, my hand slipped from the knob, which was being wet by the rain. And all the force that I had to open the door seemed to push me so that I fell backwards and straight to the ground. No one was outside to help me so I tried to get up immediately but the moment I was up I felt an excruciating pain from my left knee. It was so unberable that it made me quiver when I tried to make a step to get on the two-step stair. Somehow, I managed to open the door while my hand was shaking in pain. When I was inside I tried to feel the exact location of the pain then I saw that the left side of my jeans was torn. I realized that I hit my knee hard on something when I fell! While I was walking back and forth in the corridor I felt I could not endure the day with the growing pain in my knee. I called hubby and told him what happened and I asked him to drive back to school and pick me up. I talked to the teacher-in-charge of the student, who would have study help with me that day, about the incident and left for home when hubby arrived.
I checked on how damaged my knee was as soon as I arrived home. I found that it was swollen and the wound was on the left just below the knee. I was groaning in pain everytime I tried to walk. Both hubby and I were undecided whether to go to the nearby clinic or not. He was sure I had not broken a bone or something and I was sure the pain was not through the knee but rather on the surface made by the swell and wound. For that time being, I used the stick of the floor mop just to get me to and from the bedroom. Hubby went back to work while I was struggling on the hardships I was undergoing. This is how living in a place without relatives who could come and help. Hubby came home with crutches for me. He borrowed from a friend he usually drives. I’m still using these crutches now and I’m happy that the pain has subsided that I can touch my foot with the damaged knee to the floor without problem. But I don’t want to stress it as I’m afraid the sore will bleed again.
I have been trying to figure out how it happened. I could understand that the door knob was a bit slippery caused by rain. But the fall was unbelievably too serious to be true. If I were a director and I would direct an actor to fall from a low-built stair, I’d instruct him to fall backwards and hit his butt on the ground then use his hands to the rescue. To hit the knee on something while falling backwards would be overacting. But overacting does happen in real life, as I see it now. Because of this, I will be staying home for a couple of days. Geezz, this must be the longest post I’ve written so far. Lol!
