Not A Piece Of Cake

There are times when I feel like baking though these times do not come so often as I want it.  I am a poor hand at baking and cooking, however I’ve been trying to learn since I got married.  Whenever I try to bake something and it will turn out the way it should be feels like heaven to me.  Fortunately, nothing I baked that turned out to be “uneatable”.  Though at times I get a result that disappoints anyone’s palate.

A chocolate cake cookie?

This chocolate cake I baked on my break looked good but not the way I would want it to be.  It should be soft and spongy but this seemed to be like a cookie.  I didn’t seem to miss something from the recipe, in fact, I liked blending all the ingredients cos it looked like I was doing a chocolate fondue.  I got this recipe from my cook book but it doesn’t have an image of how it should turn out to be.  I should find a better recipe for chocolate cake.  Baking is not a piece of cake to me and I always need a recipe in front of me even if I had baked the same thing before.

Mother Language Week

It’s definitely not a good week to celebrate Mother Language Week.  And definitely not a pleasing idea to bring the students to a museum to see an exhibit when it’s snowing non-stop.  But the plan was agreed beforehand so we proceeded.  Children don’t complain about the weather, anyway.  It’s adults like me who are capable of making a big deal of weather condition.  I took my first group of students to the Museum of World Culture to see an exhibit of students’ works from respective mother tongue classes.  It went quite well since they were only four but taking them on a tram was a big responsibility on my part.  Since they were small, I had to ride with them to and from the museum.  I was so tired already when we rode back to school but my students were still in full spirits, talking and laughing on the tram.  They seemed to be enjoying the whole plan to get away from the classroom.  I wish I had the energy as a child’s again.

Today’s group could have been better because my students’ parents came along.  But the weather was worse than yesterday’s.  I was waiting for them at the kiosk but I decided later to wait for them at the Museum’s entrance instead because heavy snow was falling again.  Thanks to sms facility that made my job easier to contact them.  The day ended well as expected and unlike yesterday, we had almost visited every room where exhibits were, not just in the Mother Language’s exhibit room.

I don’t have pictures of my students at the museum and even I have I am not allowed to post pictures online without the parents’ approval.  This rule concerns all school teachers here so I may leave this post without an image.  However, though irrelevant, I did manage to take some pictures while I was standing at the kiosk pretending to enjoy what was going on around.

I Should Have Bought Bronte

Hubby was out this afternoon to check on the taxi car in the parking lot.  He called his brother and asked for help just in case the car was snowed in.  It was indeed, because they needed to tow it.  It didn’t concern me much cos I didn’t know how it looked like out there.  After getting a warning signal 2 yesterday, I could only see that the snow has gotten thicker and higher.  True to say, this is the worst winter I’ve had in my entire stay in this country.  Hubby is also beginning to complain now.  Soon we will file our complaint to the weather bureau.  As if only we could, lol!

Bronte Lo BootRecently, I bought another down jacket and a pair of boots.  I am satisfied with the jacket but not the boots because I didn’t know the would be rather thick like now.  I asked hubby how it was outside and he said it was terrible.  I should have bought a pair of Bronte boots.  My boots don’t really keep my feet warm all the time.  And if I wore thick socks the boots would be impossible to zip.  I felt several times how my feet froze after walking on snow with unsuitable boots.  But it’s spring in two weeks so I am indecisive to buy a pair now.  Though this kind of boots are year-round boots.  Maybe I should.  I should not?

this way to parking lot, please...

Now I know how it’s like when snow falls everyday.  I can’t seem to imagine living every winter like this.  It gives me a thought to start saving so we could fly to a warmer city in the next winter season.  Just a thought.  What are your thoughts? :-)
