The Day The Sun Stood Still
Sunrise: 04:13 am
Sunset: 10:18 pm
Summer solstice has fascinated me in many ways. Apart from seeing more of the day in summertime, it is the day when the sun stands still and the longest day of the year, being today, ends the midsummer celebration. It was prognosed earlier that the weather wouldn’t conform with the celebration as it didn’t on the first day but it ended quite well and warm enough to have a grill in the backyard, with jackets or cardigans on. When the sun stood still today, I saw no aliens, as opposed to the film, When The Earth Stood Still. I got this fascinating view through my kitchen window instead…

And what should I do when the sun’s still up? I took pictures of this lone air balloon in the sky until it dropped to somewhere beyond my sight. All I could imagine was it seemed to drop on the roof when it actually didn’t.

I wonder why air balloon flying is not so popular in warm countries, when it is more appropriate to fly this balloon in dry weather.

Hobo, how are you? Have you recovered from the fall?
Yes, you’re right. Sometime’s it’s hard to visualize the moon when the sun is up in the night.

Here in Sweden, especially in the northern part, the sun seems up the whole summer. This is why it’s called the land of the midnight sun.
But I think it’s the same in Alaska.

Francis used to tell me na sa Europe daw kahit 10pm na may araw pa. I thought he was just kidding then, pero totoo pala talaga. At nakita ko nga dito sunset: 10:18 pm ang haba nga ng araw dyan.

You’re right, it’s a risk when it’s dark. But here, nights are bright on summer.

Takot din ako Mar kasi madami akong naririnig na casualties sa mga balloons na iyan. Kasi wala ka talagang control. Takot!!!! Last year nga, may isa atang namatay sa Balloon Fiesta namin dito, napunta sa electrical wires ang balloon niya.
