Weekend With The Godfather
I’ve had a seemingly busy weekend that almost left me indecisive. There’s one thing I couldn’t leave out though, which is my meeting with friends on the last Saturday of evey month. It’s a fixed plan that my friends and me are tied up to follow, otherwise we couldn’t find a space in our almanac due to work and other priorities. We did meet yesterday and had lunch in an Indie restaurant. That went fine though the weather wasn’t. We headed home earlier than usual that made hubby wonder. I said it was too much crown in the city and the air was chilly. But I actually had so many thoughts in my mind, like finalizing my class schedule and other demands of work. There’s also the novel I was reading that kept me still and sitting, thank heavens I was done reading it this morning.
The best part of the weekend is when hubby and I sit and watch films after dinner. When nothing is good on the TV, we opt to watch dvd films instead, sometimes make turns to choose which one fits the mood of the night. Last night, I didn’t have any intention to watch long films so that I could have time for my schedule and a little blogging. Then I couldn’t decide which one to pull from the shelf. Not until hubby proposed the Godfather when I realized I was standing in front of the shelf, stoned and undecided. Aye, that film is quite long so I lingered a little more, trying to run my eyes left and right. In the end, grabbed the film and inserted the disk in the player. It wasn’t long when we finally sat quietly with hot drinks and cookies on the coffee table. It’s been quite sometime when I last saw the film and it’s only this time that I completely understand the story behind it. We started to watch the part 2 of the film tonight but didn’t finish it because it was getting late and I had to do my schedule, which unfortunately until this time I hadn’t done yet. Blame it on The Godfather! I was tired during the day I went to take a nap after doing some house chores. Since The Godfather is a trilogy, I have nothing to expect to watch the next weekend but the last of the series.
Thriller Novel Trailer – Evil at Heart
My boss would always remind us to read a good book everytime we end work for a long break. I’ve heard her parting words many times and everytime I do, I naughtily grimace because in the back of my mind is a question like, would she say it’s a good book if I say I read thriller novels? Because to me it is. Although I read books in different genres, the pull of thriller or crime novels has been so intense since I started to read one. As a matter of fact, I’m hooked into finishing my thriller novel now which I started reading a few days ago. And as fall is drawing near, I’m up into finding another book to read under my quilt in dark, autumn nights.
I’m not a physical bookshop shopper actually. I rely the internet to search for the latest novels around, which one is worth reading and who the author is. Most of the time, I go for upcoming novels of the authors I adore. And just in time for fall release, Chelsea Cain, the same author who wrote Heartsick and Sweetheart, is filling the bookshops with another thriller novel, Evil at Heart on the 1st of September. I also read the reviews of the book in question which help give me a more elaborative synopsis of the book. To my satisfaction, Evil at Heart has already been reviewed by publishers weekly.
Starred Review by publishers weekly:
In Cain’s superb follow-up to Heartsick, damaged detective Archie Sheridan is back home in Portland, Ore., trying to resume a normal life. Archie’s ties to serial killer Gretchen Lowell still run deep, even if he’s stopped their weekly visits in prison. Meanwhile, reporter Susan Ward is finishing an article accusing a beloved U.S. senator of seducing his children’s 14-year-old babysitter a decade earlier. When three bodies are discovered in a local park—where Archie’s team found Gretchen’s first victim 12 years earlier—Archie worries another serial killer is at large. After the senator’s unexpected death, Susan discovers links between the sex scandal and the bodies in the park. When Gretchen escapes from prison, Archie knows he’s the only one who can stop her from killing. In Cain’s capable hands, Gretchen is both a monster and the only person who truly understands Archie’s pain. With its brisk pacing, carefully metered violence and tortured hero, Cain’s sophomore effort will leave readers desperate for more.”
Now, there is no reason for me not to buy this book because the trailer below justifies how novel thriller can give me creeps while reading and engaging my thoughts in every details described and telling me not to stop. Chelsea Cain can (again) be one of the hot authors for fall with her upcoming release, Evil at Heart.
One Night At Jack’s Ridge
I heard about Jack’s Ridge Resort and Restaurant when hubby and I were in Davao City two years ago. If it was quite new or wasn’t opened for the public yet, I can’t remember but we just shunned the idea of visiting the place. In our previous trip to Davao (my hometown), however, we took the chance to went up the hills of Matina by a taxi to where Jack’s Ridge is located.

The pictures were taken by hubby and like me, his desperate desire to become a certified photographer failed to produce satisfactory results. Anyway, the place has a lot to offer to visiting tourists and locals. From cottages and conference halls to the luscious delights of foods and drinks. Not bad for a site once the headquarter of the Japanese troops during World War II. Jack’s Ridge Resort And Restaurant is definitely worth a drive uphill when you’re in Davao City.
