Thought I Had Insomnia

It’s not the midnight sun or the moonlight shadow that keeps me awake until the wee hours of the morning. I have noticed that I’m becoming a night person more than ever. It’s worse when I’m working cos I have to get up early and this makes me tired and drowsy the whole day. I always have books on my bedside table so that when I can’t sleep I just grab one and read until I feel sleepy. But it takes hours before my senses get tired and retire to sleep. I always thought I had insomnia, but when I checked the symptoms, my sleeping problem could not be considered as insomnia.

Here are some indications that one is suffering from insomnia:

Difficulty falling asleep, which can mean lying in bed for up to an hour or more, perhaps tossing and turning, wishing for sleep to begin.  Yes, I do suffer from this.

Awakening during sleep and having trouble getting back to sleep.  I must admit that I could fall into deep slumber the moment I close my eyes to sleep.  Even when I wake up to go to the toilet I could get back to sleep easily.

Awakening too early in the morning.  This is hard for me to do.  I have difficulty falling asleep, but I have difficulty getting up early in the morning, too.  Even when I fall asleep after 12 midnight, I still manage to have enough sleep to make me feel good the next day.

Feeling unrefreshed upon awakening.  I do feel this when I need to and forced to get up early after long hours of being awake the night before.

I always believe that having enough sleep is the key to working productively in the day.  Although I don’t have the symptoms above, I feel that I am at risk to having insomnia.  And the only solution I can possibly think of is to lock myself in the bedroom early when I need to wake up early the next morning. If you wonder what time I did write this post, it’s 3am and am still not sleepy.

  1. One thing a lazy bum like me will never have is insomnia! LOL!

I can practically fall asleep the moment my head hits the pillow. But I do have problems with waking up though …

    Mhy,

I have all the symptoms of insomnia that is why one of my first articles in my site was about this problem. Don’t get used to staying up late at night. Masasanay ang body clock mo and soon you will develop this illness. Mahirap na condition yan fren.

Jess, parang ito na nga ang nangyayari. Nasasanay na ang katawan ko. A week before magsimula ang work, kelangan ko nang matulog ng maaga talaga para bumalik sa normal.

Looks like you have all the symptoms huh? I am officially one too, I have never gone to bed anytime earlier than 3am, even if I tried, I can never fall asleep before 3am! Not proud of that, but I can’t change the habit too.

too bad we are in different time zone, otherwise, we could talk all night. hhehehehehehe

    Farah,

You, too, have the same sleeping condition as I do. Oh, I’d love to talk to you all night. The time zone is also a problem when my kins want to chat with me and I’m still asleep here, hehee!

Ako rin may insomnia.

Juler, you will not realized yet that it’s insomnia cos you’re still young and can’t feel the difference. But wait a little later and you will find yourself losing your energy in the daytime cos of the lack of sleep. Kaya habang bata pa, blog lang ng blog, hehee! O, kala ko di ka na matutulog sa kabablog. :-)

Blogg-induced insomnia yan! lol! Kidding aside, you should see if you have iron-deficiency. Usually this results to insomnias. I am anemic so I get this too. Adik na nga ako sa iron supplement eh. Ang dugo ko eh di gugustuhin ng vampira hahaha! Uy, kung serious ka about the jewelries, I can go global for you-that’s not a problem- o willing to take the dare?! Let me know. Mabilis pa sa alas-4 ko padala order mo!

OMG, Maricris, thanks for telling this. I actually have iron-deficiency but didn’t realize it would lead to insomnia. Haha! ganun, ibig sabihin, ang bampira na ang matatakot sa yo niyan. Yes, yes, nagkakainteres talaga ako sa mga ganung jewelries. Isang set pa lang ang nabili ko. I will visit your e-store talaga.
