A Nerve-Racking Upgrade to WP 2.3.2

The last time I visited Wordpress site was when WP version 2.3 was released.  I did not upgrade this site to that new release since I knew it would be tricky and risky to manipulate the database.  I thought of installing the new version of Wordpress to my other site and find out that version 2.3.2 was released recently.  I had version 2.2.3 so it would make three versions older if I wouldn’t upgrade to the latest one.  Having thought of the latest version to my other site, I might as well have it on this site.  So came the upgrading.  Whew!

As the first step is to make a back-up of my database, I requested hubby to back me up :-)   The database is like a culprit that scared me to death.  I could lose all data in one false click and this part was indeed intimidating.  As hubby was telling me to click this and that, I felt my hands were trembling, unsure which to click.  The whole process made me sweat as if the rays of the sun hit me straight.  Having done all the necessary steps stated in the Wordpress Backups, I couldn’t wait to check if we had done the right thing.  The first check turned out to be a failure, and it terribly worried me, as it showed no files found to be upgraded.  For a while, we thought we missed something.  But we figured out that the browser was pointed to one folder too many.  Since I have uploaded all wordpress files into the root directory, the folder wordpress shouldn’t be pointed to the browser, as stated in the guide.  That’s just in case I have uploaded wordpress files into that wordpress folder.  Good heavens!  The upgrade was successful.

So far, the significant difference I noticed in this latest version is the ability to add tags to every post.  In this case, If I post something in category-photography then I could add tags like landscape, buildings, or anything that is relevant to the post.  Another thing is the addition of categories in the widget panel.  I haven’t used this widget yet and there might have more features in this new version that I overlooked.

Good to know about that, Shanker. You’re very resourceful when it comes to WP. Thanks for sharing.
