Painted On Cloth

This beautiful scenario is actually painted on cloth to be used as a wall decor or a wall painting. It is 1.5m x 1m in size, perfect in the hallway or in the living room. A frame would hide the edges of the cloth and make it look like a painting hanging on the wall.

An artwork of a typical Filipino artist, the painting portrays a classic bay village in the Philippines by sunset. It’s the time of the day when the villagers take refuge from the approaching real dark night. I remember a scene like this, though not in a bay, when my grandmother used to shout our names to convince us to get inside the house before 6pm. She would tell us that “unseen” people which we used to refer to as “not like us” would start joining us at that particular hour and they could be mean sometimes. That’s why the surroundings would look like this painting, harmless and serene.

Neither A WAHM Nor A SAHM

We never know what we learn from bloghopping and reading a piece of info while dropping EC. It’s basically easy to notice the “about” widget or something and I’m keen to know where the authors from and what they blog about. In many instances, I came across an acronym that made me stare and think what every letter stands for – WAHM. I thought I must be the most unaware, unimaginative blogger around who doesn’t know what the acronym stands for. By instinct, I googled WAHM and I realized at an instant that I am not a WAHM myself. This must explain why I didn’t get to know this acronym at all. Now I can say, I’m neither a WAHM nor a SAHM, simply because I’m not a work-at-home-mom. Although I stay at home now that I’m free from work, I’m not a mom to be qualified as a SAHM. Try SAHW. What a thought. WAHM, SAHM and now I remember the pop band WHAM who popularized the songs “WMUBYGG” and “LC”. Can you figure those titles out? I bet it’s easy.

And speaking of acronyms, I’m not the only one who aren’t aware about familiar acronyms. Many years ago, a friend of mine emailed me about what FYI meant. It’s kind of funny cos I don’t think there’s a single person on earth who doesn’t know what FYI stands for. Except this friend of mine. I thought she was kidding, but she wasn’t. And how she laughed when I told her it’s ‘for your information’. She said, in fact, she had said this many times but didn’t realize many were writing and using those words as FYI.

Although it’s tricky at times, acronyms can be useful in sending SMS especially for those who engage so much in using this ingenious technology. But as far as I am concerned, I’m a novice in SMS shortcuts or something. I have tried many times, but I’m always afraid the receiver might misunderstood me as I misunderstand most sms acronyms at times, lol!

I better go watch CSI NY now before I start writing in shorthand rather than acronyms. :-)

Can Computer Games Affect Studies?

I’m worried about my nephew’s computer habits and how computer games affect his studies. I got a text message from my sister telling me that my nephew got a low grade in his chinese class, probably the result of sitting in front of the computer playing games. His parents were alarmed and they must have grounded him away from his pc by now. I haven’t talked to my sister yet cos I want my advice or suggestions ready when we talk about it.

I’ve discussed this matter with hubby so I could get some advice from him, too. I, myself, have never played any computer games eversince, neither did hubby. Although I remember sneaking time playing solitaire while waiting for my chatmates. But it wasn’t addicting. Anyhow, we’ve come up a decision to tell my sister and her hubby to limit the hours of the kids in using the computer and maybe give them a research study about anything. My brother-in-law mentioned once that he usually give some typing lessons for the kids but it seems not enough.

I’ve researched about how computer games affect studies but what I found was all about violent video games and how they affect the brain’s responses. I don’t think my newphew has come this far in playing computer games that he will turn out to be violent. There is no sign of this kind of behaviour so far. He is still a sweet and charming kid, what he needs is complete guidance both in his study habits and gaming habits.

Isn’t he cute?
